‘You are so lucky’: Trump teases Elon Musk during dinner with Saudi Crown Prince; Tesla CEO’s response
Elon Musk thanked Donald Trump hours after the US president joked that the Tesla CEO “never thanked” him “properly.”Speaking during the US–Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, Trump spoke about new tax deductions for domestic car production and mentioned Musk several times. At one point, he asked, “Has he ever thanked me for that properly?” before repeating a few moments later, “You are so lucky I’m with you, Elon.”
Hours later, Musk posted on X: “I would like to thank president Trump for all he has done for America and the world.”The exchange came after Musk attended a White House dinner hosted by Trump and Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman. It was only their second public interaction since their split earlier this year.Musk had earlier backed Trump in the last election before briefly leading the Department of Government Efficiency, where he oversaw cuts to federal spending and staff. Their relationship soured after Musk criticised Trump’s tax-and-spending plans and announced a new political party. Trump later warned that federal support helping Musk’s companies could be pulled back.
