NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old woman was strangled to death by her father after she resisted a marriage arranged against her wishes, police said on Sunday. The accused, 48-year-old Gayyur, reportedly surrendered at the local police station on Saturday, confessing to the crime.
Circle officer Siddharth K Misra told reporters that a murder case has been registered, and Gayyur was taken into custody Saturday night. The victim’s body has been sent for postmortem examination. Locals said the young woman wanted to marry someone of her choice, but her parents opposed it and had arranged her marriage to another man.(With agency inputs)
