YouTuber and Bigg Boss Malayalam fame Jasmin Jaffar is facing criticism for violating temple rules at the Guruvayur Shri Krishna Temple in Kerala. A now-deleted Instagram reel showed the 24-year-old washing her feet at the temple’s sacred pond in Thrissur. The pond – a prohibited area for non-Hindus – holds religious significance and is traditionally used for bathing Lord Krishna during rituals. The act, according to temple authorities, violated temple protocols. Moreover, the temple prohibits photography, videography, and the entry of non-Hindus in the premises. Following the uproar, Guruvayur Devaswom administrator O. B. Arun Kumar filed a complaint with temple police, calling for action against the social media influencer.

Jasmin Jaffar is among popular social media influencers, she has over 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube and around 1.5 million followers on Meta’s Instagram. Jaffar became popular after finishing as the second runner-up in Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 6. During the show, her closeness with co-contestant Gabri Jose stirred controversy as she was engaged to Afzal Ameer at the time. Jasmin later admitted she loved Gabri, which eventually led to her fiancé ending their relationship. Afzal accused her of betrayal, saying the experience had affected his mental health.On social media, he wrote: “My heart is broken over Jasmin’s actions in the Bigg Boss house. Our relationship of seven months feels like a lie now. I can’t handle the drama anymore. I’m done with this relationship. Please spare me from this matter and don’t drag me further.”
Jasmin Jaffar issues public apology
Jasmin Jaffar shared an Instagram Story, issuing an apology. She wrote (translated)“To those who love me and to everyone else, I understand that a video I made caused distress. It was never my intention to hurt anyone or create controversy. I sincerely apologise for the mistake that happened out of ignorance.”She has since deleted the Instagram reel.
Guruvayur Devaswom to hold ‘purification ritual’
Meanwhile, Guruvayur Devaswom has decided to conduct shudheekarana (purification) rituals. The devaswom has restricted entry of devotees in the temple on Tuesady amid the ongoing purification rituals. The administration said that the purification ritual expenses will be withdrawn from the devaswom funds initially.
