Uttarakhand resort horror: Delhi executive raped in Lansdowne; fiance’s cousin on the run | Dehradun News

DEHRADUN: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her fiancé’s cousin at a resort near Jaiharikhal in Lansdowne while on holiday with his family, police said on Wednesday. Though the incident took place on Saturday evening, it only came to light after the survivor reported it through the 112 helpline after a couple of days. Her medical examination was subsequently conducted and her statement is being recorded, officials said.The woman, an executive at a private firm in Delhi, had travelled to Lansdowne with her fiancé, a 29-year-old software engineer based in Noida, along with his maternal uncle, a cousin, and the accused — a 24-year-old student and another cousin. Police said the accused fled the resort soon after the incident and remains untraceable. His last known location is being tracked through mobile tower dumps and resort CCTV footage.
She told the police that she had gone to the washroom around 8.30pm when the accused followed her and raped her. The group had been celebrating in the room before the fiancé, the maternal uncle and the other cousin left for dinner, leaving her alone with the accused, said Vinay Kumar, station in-charge of Lansdowne police station.An FIR under BNS section 64 (rape) was lodged at Lansdowne police station on Monday. “The accused is absconding and a team has been formed to trace and arrest him,” said Pauri Garhwal SSP Lokeshwar Singh. The fiancé and other family members are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.A forensic team from Srinagar was called in and has collected evidence from the hotel room. Officials added that although the crime took place in a revenue area, Lansdowne police took over the case due to the sensitivity of the matter.
