Uttarakhand: Landslide blocks Kedarnath route near Gaurikund; pilgrims halted, rescue teams deployed
The trekking route to Kedarnath Dham near Gaurikund has been closed due to a landslide triggered by a hillock collapse on Friday night. The Public Works Department is actively working to clear the debris and restore the obstructed path.

DEHRADUN: The trekking route to Kedarnath Dham near Gaurikund in Uttarakhand was closed late Friday night following a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in the district. The route was obstructed after a hillock collapsed, prompting the Public Works Department to begin clearance work to make the path passable. While efforts are underway, pilgrims returning from Kedarnath are being assisted by security personnel, officials said. Those heading towards the shrine from Gaurikund have been stopped until the route is fully restored. Police, SDRF, and NDRF teams have been deployed at the site to support route clearance and assist pilgrims. Several parts of Rudraprayag district reported waterlogging, debris flow, and landslides due to intense overnight rainfall. In view of the situation, the district administration and disaster management department initiated swift relief and rescue operations.
