UP teen wanted Rs 2,600 for perfume, party, fees; killed poor granny for she had none | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: The 14-year-old boy who murdered his grandmother, 70, has told police that he carried out the crime in a fit of rage after he was denied Rs 2,600 — Rs 500 for perfume and an outing, and Rs 2,100 for school fees. The boy also revealed that he calmly slept next to her grandmother’s body all night to avoid suspicion. The crime unfolded in Mujaasa village of Malihabad on the night of May 21/22.The boy revealed that 11 years ago, Vidyavati Devi, a widow, approached a Lucknow court to seek his custody after his mother Prema and father Rahul died. She raised him as her own, protecting and nurturing him through hardship and poverty. But in the cruellest twist of fate, the very hands that once cradled and fed him were the ones he struck down, bringing a heart-breaking end to her years of devotion.According to police, the boy recently left his grand-uncle Radhe Shyam’s house and returned to live with Vidyavati Devi. Just four days before the incident, he brought his belongings, including perfume and clothes, and told her he would stay with her from now on. A day later, he demanded money — Rs 500 for branded clothes and perfume, and Rs 2,100 for school fees. When Vidyavati told him she didn’t have that kind of money, the boy lost his temper. In a violent rage, he beat and strangled her. When she stopped moving, he gently placed her on the bed and lay beside her through the night, pretending everything was normal, the police said. The next morning, he locked the door from outside using a brick and told a neighbour, “Dadi is unwell. I’m going to school.”Concerned that Vidyavati wasn’t answering calls, her daughter Mamata contacted neighbour Kalawati to check on her. Kalawati, accompanied by another woman, found the door blocked. On entering, they found Vidya’s body on the bed and raised the alarm. The boy returned shortly afterward and was taken into custody.During police questioning, he confessed. “I didn’t know Dadi was poorer than Baba (Radheshyam). She refused money. When she pushed me, I got angry and choked her,” he told police. He also admitted using a pillow to smother her to ensure she was dead.Vidyavati’s life was marked by loss — her husband died 20 years ago, and her only son passed away a decade later. When her daughter-in-law left with her grandson, Vidya fought in court to bring him back. She opened a tiny grocery shop to feed him, clothed him, and raised him against all odds. But the same boy, in a moment of rage and entitlement, ended her life without mercy, said SHO, Malihabad, Surendra Singh Bhati.
