BAREILLY: A newborn girl was found buried alive near the Bahgul river bridge in Shahjahanpur on Sunday. The infant’s life was saved after a shepherd, while grazing his goats, heard faint cries coming from a mound of soil and went closer to investigate.Dubloo, the shepherd, said that when he moved closer, he saw a tiny hand sticking out of the earth. It was bleeding, covered with ants and trembling weakly, while the rest of the baby’s body was still buried under the soil. “I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I immediately raised an alarm and villagers quickly gathered at the spot before we informed the police,” he said.A police team carefully dug the infant out. “Her body was completely smeared in mud and she was in a fragile state. The infant was first taken to the local community health centre, where she was given emergency treatment. After the doctors assessed her condition, she was referred to the Govt Medical College,” said Rakesh Kumar, a resident.Dr Rajesh Kumar, principal of the Govt Medical College, said, “The baby is around 10-15 days old. She was extremely weak and had sustained injuries when she was brought in. Her hand had been severely bitten by ants and was bleeding profusely.
