Delhi-Mumbai Expressway accident: Mini bus-truck collision leaves 4 dead, 10 injured; driver likely dozed off at wheel

KOTA: At least four members of a family, a mother, her two sons, and son-in-law — were killed, and 10 others, including women, were injured after the mini bus they were travelling in collided from behind with a truck on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway under Budadet police station limits in Kota district early Sunday morning.The four deceased were identified as Geeta Soni (63), her two sons Anil Soni (48) and Brijesh Soni (45), and her son-in-law Suresh Soni (45), all residents of Sitabadi in Karoli, Rajasthan.The mishap occurred at around 5 am on Sunday when the traveller rammed from behind into the truck on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, killing three persons on the spot, and one other died at the hospital, DSP Shivam Joshi told TOI. Ten other persons, including women, sustained injuries in the mishap and were rushed to Kota’s MBS hospital, where they are under treatment, he added.The four bodies were placed in the mortuary for postmortem, he further said. Prima facie, the traveller’s driver napping while driving caused the vehicle to ram into the truck from behind, the DSP said.The deceased and injured persons of a family from Karoli were reportedly returning home by traveller after a family function in Indore, he said. Deceased Brijesh and Anil were reportedly jewellers in Karoli, while deceased Suresh Soni was a govt teacher in Bharatpur district.
