Told to get haircut, asked to follow rules, students stab Haryana school principal to death on Guru Purnima

HISAR: On Guru Purnima, the 52-year-old principal of a senior secondary school in Haryana’s Hisar district was stabbed to death on campus, allegedly by two of his minor students, simply because he asked them to get haircuts and follow discipline. The accused — aged 16 and 17 — were in Classes XI and XII, respectively. School CCTV footage showed them fleeing after the crime and throwing a knife in the bushes. Police recovered the weapon and were looking for the suspects. The principal, Jagbir Pannu, was a disciplinarian and would often instruct students to keep their hair short, police said. He had often reprimanded the accused duo. Other teachers, too, received complaints about their misbehaviour but allegedly ignored them. Pannu, however, wasn’t one to stay quiet and kept asking them to follow school rules and get their hair trimmed. The two students appeared for a unit test on Thursday morning. After it was over, they went to the principal’s office and allegedly asked him to step outside. Pannu came out and was led to a spot away from CCTV cameras, where one of the students allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him several times. The principal collapsed on the spot while the attackers fled.Pannu lived in Putthi village and is survived by his wife and two sons — Sanjeev, adoctor, and Sameer, an advocate.
