Tamil Nadu MP chain snatching case solved: Accused nabbed in Delhi; scooter hunt leads to arrest

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday cracked the case of chain snatching involving Tamil Nadu MP R Sudha near the Poland Embassy in Chanakyapuri area, arresting the accused and recovering the stolen gold chain. The arrest comes two days after the high-profile incident that took place early Monday morning in the heart of the high-security diplomatic enclave. The accused, who allegedly escaped towards Moti Bagh after committing the crime, is now in custody.Sources said the suspect was traced using CCTV footage from the area, including those being sourced from nearby embassies. Police teams had zeroed in on a blue scooter used in the crime, and the accused was tracked moving around Moti Bagh for nearly an hour before heading to Chanakyapuri. The incident occurred around 6.15 am near the Poland Embassy’s Gate 3 and 4. The MP said the man approached her from the opposite direction on a scooter and snatched her gold chain. “Because he was moving slowly, I didn’t suspect anything at first. But as he passed, he yanked the chain so hard it tore my clothes and bruised my neck,” she said. The gold chain, weighing over four sovereigns, has been recovered, police confirmed.
