MADURAI: At least six people, including five women, were killed and several others injured in a head-on collision between two private buses near Idaikal village in Tenkasi district on Monday. The accident occurred on the Thirumangalam-Kollam National Highway (NH) when a private bus travelling from Tenkasi to Rajapalayam collided with another bus heading from Sankarankovil to Tenkasi. The impact near Idaikal village was severe, causing immediate casualties. Police and the fire brigade rushed to the site following the accident, assisted by local residents in rescuing the injured. Around ten ambulances transported the victims to Tenkasi Government Hospital for treatment. District Collector A K Kamal Kishore and Superintendent of Police S Aravind visited the scene to supervise rescue and relief operations. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
