‘Sorry ma’: Vijay leads protest against lock-up deaths under DMK rule; demands apology, compensation for all 24 victims’ families | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Actor and TVK president Vijay on Sunday protested condemning the lock-up deaths in Tamil Nadu under the DMK govt in the last four years. This was the first public protest in which Vijay had participated ever since he formed the party in Feb, 2024. In the protest, slogans were raised against the DMK govt for the lock-up deaths. The protesters held placards with the slogans that ‘we don’t want sorry but justice’.Speaking in the protest, Vijay insisted chief minister M K Stalin to seek apology to all the families of lock-up death victims and to provide compensation like the family of Ajith Kumar. “There is nothing wrong in saying sorry to the family of Ajith Kumar. So far, 24 persons have died in police lock-ups in your govt. You should apologize to all the 24 families. Similarly, you should provide compensation to all the 24 families,” Vijay said.Recalling the lock-up death of Jayaraj and Bennix in Sathankulam in 2020, Vijay said, “When you (Stalin) were the opposition party leader, you said that transfer of Jayaraj and Bennix case to CBI as a shame to police but you have done the same now.”Questioning Stalin’s decision to transfer the case to the CBI, Vijay said, “You said that CBI is a toy in the hands of BJP and RSS and even now it remains the same .You have transferred the case to the CBI just to hide behind Union govt.”Vijay accused that action is taken on criminal cases based on the intervention of the court and not by the govt itself. “There are several atrocities in your govt. Starting from Anna University (rape) case to Ajith Kumar case, the court is intervening and questioning the govt. If the court is there to question everything, why are you here? Why is this govt here? Why is this CM post for you? There will be no reply from you because there is no reply with you. The best answer which can be expected from you is sorry ma.”Mocking Stalin for seeking apology to the family of Ajith Kumar, Vijay said the DMK govt which was a mere advertisement govt has now become a “sorry ma govt”.The actor also insisted Stalin to set right the law and order situation in the state before the end of this tenure. “TVK will stand with the people and will force you to rectify the situation. TVK will undertake all required protests,” Vijay said.Thousands of TVK cadres and supporters participated in the protest that happened in Sivananda salai in Chennai. Earlier, the TVK cadres protested in the GST road near the Officers Training Academy (OTA) when police prevented them from proceeding to the protest spot. The families of the lock-up death victims had also participated in the protest. Vijay had met the families of the victims at his party headquarters in Panaiyur on Saturday.Vijay assured 18 families that his party will extend all possible legal support if they wish to proceed against the lock-up deaths.
