PUNE: A 24-year-old youth from Hyderabad went missing under suspicious circumstances at Sinhagad fort on Wednesday evening, with the Haveli police and local rescue teams continuing to look for him on Thursday too.Inspector Sachin Wangade of the Haveli police told TOI that the youth was visiting the fort with his fiancée and three friends on Wednesday. When the five of them were near Tanaji Kada (cliff), the youth told his friends he needed a toilet break. He went off and failed to return. His friends started to look for him and found his single footwear near the cliff. “They alerted the police control room immediately,” he said. The police became suspicious when they saw a person with a structure similar to the missing youth on footage of CCTV cameras installed by the forest department at the foothills. “The visuals are unclear, but the youth’s parents suspect the person in the footage is their son,” Wangade told TOI.He said his team and local rescue teams carried out searches despite rain and fog till late into the night. “Early on Thursday, we resumed our search. The man was untraceable till late evening,” he added. An officer from the Pune Rural police said the youth’s parents told the police the family was from Satara district and settled in Hyderabad. Their son ran a café in Hyderabad. “The youth was wearing shorts while on the fort. The person in the footage was wearing a shirt and running towards Kondhanpur Phata, trying to avoid CCTV cameras. We are investigating the case from all angles,” he said.
