Superintendent of police Ringu Ngupok said the police had launched a night-long search for the accused on Thursday. Locals found him on Friday morning and handed him over to the police. “Around 2.30 to 3 pm, a crowd of 500 to 600 people gathered outside the Roing police station. They broke open the gate and stormed in,” SP Ngupok told news agency ANI. “We tried to stop them, but they pulled the accused out,” he said. The SP said the man was taken to the district hospital after the mob attack but died of his injuries.
