Sanju Samson wreaks havoc! Smashes 21 sixes as opener ahead of Asia Cup 2025 | Cricket News

Sanju Samson has set the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) alight with his explosive hitting, clearing the ropes 21 times in just three matches as an opener. The 30-year-old’s form has not only powered his side but also reignited the debate about his role in India’s Asia Cup squad starting September 9. In the latest match, playing for Kochi Blue Tigers against Adani Trivandrum Royals, Samson hammered 62 runs off 37 deliveries, which included five sixes, as his team posted 191. Earlier in the tournament, he produced an 89-run knock from 46 balls against Thrissur Titans, decorated with nine maximums, though his side fell short in that contest. His standout innings came in the game when he blazed his way to 121 runs, sending the ball into the stands seven times. Samson has also shown adaptability, shifting to No. 6 in one of the fixtures, underlining his versatility along with his natural attacking flair. In these 3 games, he managed a compelling 272 runs, more than enough to turn heads and stress the fact that he can deliver if used in his go-to role as opener. His form has sparked fresh discussions on India’s batting order for the Asia Cup. Former captain Ajinkya Rahane voiced support for Samson, saying on his YouTube channel: “Shubman is back in the team, I’m sure he is most likely to open with Abhishek Sharma. Personally, I would like to see Sanju Samson in the team because he has done really well. He is a very confident guy, a very good team man, and that is very important.” However, not everyone agrees. Ex-India batter Aakash Chopra suggested Samson may still miss out despite his KCL form. “With Shubman Gill’s return, Sanju Samson’s fate has more or less been sealed. He will not feature in the playing XI now. You will not drop Tilak Varma or Hardik Pandya, which means Samson sits out and Jitesh Sharma will likely get the nod again,” Chopra remarked.
