GURGAON: A 33-year-old manager with an outsourcing firm was found dead at the base of his office building at Spaze IT Park in Sector 49 in the early hours of Tuesday, with police treating the case as an alleged suicide. Originally from Jharkhand, Varun Shekhar was employed with Sand Martin and was on night shift when the incident occurred. Police said they received information around 4.30am after a guard spotted him lying near the building. According to police, Shekhar’s shift ended around 3.30am. His colleagues began searching for him when he did not turn up to board the office cab and could not be located on the premises either. Preliminary findings suggest the fall took place around 4am. “CCTV footage from the building shows Shekhar alone on the terrace around the time of the incident. No other person was seen with him even on the stairs leading to the terrace before the fall,” a police officer said, adding that the footage was being examined closely. Shekhar was married and stayed in a rented accommodation in Sohna with his wife. Police said his family was informed soon after the incident. “His family hasn’t indicated any possible reason so far. No suicide note was recovered from the spot or his belongings either. At this stage, no foul play is suspected, but all angles are being verified,” the officer said. The body has been sent for autopsy to establish the exact cause of death. Police said the autopsy findings, along with forensic inputs and technical analysis of CCTV footage and mobile phone records, will help reconstruct the sequence of events. Inquest proceedings under Section 194 of BNSS have been initiated, and statements of colleagues, security staff and building management are being recorded. Investigators are also checking whether Shekhar accessed the terrace earlier during his shift. In a separate incident, a 35-year-old daily wager died after falling from the 14th floor of an under-construction building in Sector 28 on Monday afternoon. Saddam, who was from West Bengal, fell while working at the site around 3pm, police said. “The circumstances leading to the fall are being verified. No witness account has emerged so far,” an officer said. After the incident, the body was taken into custody and shifted to the mortuary. An officer said Saddam’s family is travelling to Gurgaon from West Bengal, and that the autopsy will be conducted on Wednesday after they arrive and complete formalities. Police said further action will follow the autopsy report.
