‘Saiyaara’ beats Bollywood’s blockbusters

While many recent films have leaned on the appeal of star actors, ‘Saiyaara’ is succeeding thanks to its strong storyline, emotional depth, and engaging music. The film has outperformed major releases like ‘Dunki,’ featuring Shah Rukh Khan’s comeback alongside Rajkumar Hirani, and ‘Singham Again,’ which saw the return of the Ajay Devgn–Rohit Shetty duo. Additionally, ‘Saiyaara’ has surpassed popular movies such as ‘Drishyam 2’ (Rs 239.67 crore), ‘The Kerala Story’ (Rs 239.05 crore), and ‘Krrish 3’ (Rs 231.79 crore). It is currently just above the earnings of ‘URI: The Surgical Strike’ (Rs 244.14 crore), which was previously regarded as an all-time blockbuster.

‘Saiyaara’ movie review

With ‘Saiyaara’ Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda have proved their mettle in the industry. Though it is their debut Bollywood film, they worked nothing less than a seasons star. TOI critic reviewing their performance mentioned, “Ahaan Panday’s makes a smashing debut, capturing both the rough-edged swagger of a star-in-the-making and the vulnerability demanded later on. His prowess is on display in the finale as he revisits an earlier scene—channelling Virat ‘King’ Kohli—transforming the raw passion of the first half into pure emotion later. Aneet Padda is impressive in romantic and emotional scenes, and has a dainty yet commanding screen presence. The actress shines in a recording studio scene early on, when she talks about the enduring nature of emotions in music versus fleeting trends.”

Tough competition ahead

If the romantic drama continues at the same pace, the film might soon join the Rs 300 crore club. Further, while ‘Saiyaara’ is maintaining a strong hold at the box office, numbers might get affected by the new releases scheduled for this week. On 1st August, two new films, ‘Dhadak 2’ and ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, will make it to the theatres. The former is an intense drama, while the latter is a comedy riot.
