Red Sea attack turns deadly: Liberian ship attacked, two crew dead

Two crew members were killed in an attack on a Liberian-flagged cargo ship in the Red Sea, a representative of Liberia at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) confirmed on Tuesday. The vessel, named Eternity, was reportedly struck after Yemen’s Houthi rebels resumed attacks on international shipping in the region following a period of relative calm.“We received reports last evening that the Eternity again has been attacked … causing the death of two seafarers,” the Liberian official said during a statement in London. The Red Sea has become a flashpoint in recent months as Houthi forces, based in Yemen, have repeatedly targeted cargo ships they claim are linked to Western interests or the Israel-Gaza conflict. The IMO has expressed growing concern about the safety of seafarers and commercial vessels operating in the vital maritime corridor. The names and nationalities of the deceased crew members have not yet been released.
