‘Rapid service’: Trump presses China to increase soybean imports to ease deficit; tariff deadline expiry looms

President Donald Trump on Monday called on China to increase its purchases of American soybeans, framing the move as a way to address Beijing’s trade deficit with the United States. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “China is worried about its shortage of soybeans. Our great farmers produce the most robust soybeans. I hope China will quickly quadruple its soybean orders. This is also a way of substantially reducing China’s Trade Deficit with the USA. Rapid service will be provided. Thank you President XI.”

This comes as US-China tensions loom as the tariff truce between the two nations ends Tuesday, raising the risk of renewed higher tariffs.‘Trump yet to decide on tariffs over China’s Russian oil purchase’: VanceTrump has not yet decided whether to impose tariffs on China over its purchases of Russian oil, according to Vice President J D Vance who cited broader complexities in Washington’s relationship with Beijing.“The President said he’s thinking about it, but he hasn’t made any firm decisions,” Vance told Fox News Sunday. He was responding to a question on whether China could face similar measures to those reportedly under consideration for countries like India, which also import Russian oil.“Obviously, the China issue is a little bit more complicated because our relationship with China affects a lot of other things that have nothing to do with the Russian situation,” Vance said.
