JAIPUR: Bikaner police Saturday arrested a 50-year-old man for raping two minor sisters, aged 7 and 9, earlier this week. Following the arrest, police discovered that the accused had a violent history and was convicted of murdering five members of a family during a robbery attempt in 1993. The man, identified as Shribhagwan, was released from prison in 2013 after completing his sentence for the robbery and murder case.An FIR was registered against Shribhagwan Thursday in Sridungargarh area of Bikaner for sexually abusing the two minor girls. The girls came to visit a temple located on an agricultural farm owned by the accused when he lured them into a nearby hut and allegedly raped them.Police investigations revealed Shribhagwan built a house and a temple on govt land on Adsasar-Surjansar Road, where he reportedly performed tantric rituals. He lured the sisters, who were visiting their maternal uncle, into his home with promises of prasad and new slippers before allegedly raping them.CO Niket Pareek stated that after the assault, Shribhagwan threatened the girls, warning them against revealing the incident. Though initially silenced by fear, the girls later confided in their family.Shribhagwan’s criminal past includes breaking into a jeweller’s house in Bidasar, Bikaner, in 1993, where he murdered two women and three children during the robbery attempt. He was initially sentenced to death, a penalty later commuted to 20 years of imprisonment by the Supreme Court, police officials said.
