Rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim gets 40-day parole; will return to jail mid-September

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government on Tuesday once again released Gurmeet Ram Rahim, a convict in rape and murder cases heading Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) Sirsa, on 40-days parole. He will be returning back to jail barracks on September 14. With this, in the past four months period from January 1 to September 14, he will be out of jail for 91 days. Earlier in April, the state government had released him on 21 day’s furlough. As per the bail conditions, he will be staying at his Sirsa based ashram. He was released from the Sunaria jail in Rohtak on Tuesday and immediately left for his Dera in Sirsa. The detailed order was not available till the filing of this report. The Dera chief is currently serving a sentence in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail since August 2017. On August 25, 2017, a special CBI court in Panchkula convicted him for the rape of Sadhvis (female disciples) and sentenced him to two terms of 20 years imprisonment. He is currently serving a sentence for rape and a journalist’s murder case. Around 40 persons lost their lives in August 2017 after violence took place in Panchkula and other parts of Haryana and Punjab after he was convicted for rape cases.
