The mother and daughter paid their accomplices with gold jewellery to commit the murder

DIBRUGARH: A local businessman was allegedly murdered in a plot orchestrated by his wife Bobby Gogoi and teenage daughter in the Barbaruah area of Dibrugarh. The mother-daughter duo, along with two others — identified as Dipjyoti Buragohain (21) and his accomplice, a minor (17) — were arrested by police on Sunday morning, eight days after the crime.The victim, Uttam Gogoi (52), a resident of Lahon Gaon in Barbaruah, was found dead at his residence on July 25. What initially appeared to be a robbery gone wrong, soon unraveled into a chilling murder conspiracy involving his family members. According to police, Gogoi’s wife and their minor daughter — currently a Class 9 student — were directly involved in planning the murder. The 16-year-old teenage daughter was allegedly in a relationship with one of the other accused, Dipjyoti. Investigators said the mother and daughter had paid Buragohain and his minor accomplice several lakh rupees, along with gold jewellery, to carry out the murder. The gold jewellery was recovered from them following their arrests.“The mother-daughter duo tried to stage the scene as a robbery to mislead investigators, but inconsistencies in their statement and forensic evidence exposed their involvement,” Dibrugarh SSP Rakesh Reddy said.The news of the arrests sparked protests in Barbaruah. Locals gathered outside Barbaruah police station, demanding swift and severe punishment for the perpetrators.Dibrugarh SSP Rakesh Reddy, who is overseeing the investigation, said police are working to uncover the motive behind the murder.“The investigation is ongoing, and we are interrogating the accused to uncover more information. Once investigation is over, we will be able to pinpoint the motive behind the crime,” Reddy said.
