Noida dowry murder horror: Cops arrest Nikki’s brother-in-law; hunt on for father-in-law | Noida News

NEW DELHI: The brother-in-law of 26-year-old Nikki, who was allegedly tortured and set ablaze by her in-laws over dowry demands, was arrested on Monday. This is the third arrest in the case so far, according to Greater Noida Police. Earlier, Nikki’s mother-in-law was taken into custody on Sunday. Her husband, Vipin Bhati — accused of murdering her — was arrested the same day after being injured in a police encounter. He has since been sent to 14-day judicial custody. Also read – ‘After Scorpio, they wanted Mercedes or Rs 60L’: Kin of Noida dowry victim recall torture; seek bulldozer action After Vipin’s arrest, Nikki’s father made an emotional plea for justice. “They don’t deserve to live as they killed my innocent daughter. Daya poured kerosene and Vipin set her on fire. For long, they had been demanding money and a car,” Payla said, urging chief minister Yogi Adityanath to order an encounter.

Nikki died on August 21 while being shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. She had been married to Vipin since December 2016. Her sister, Kanchan, is also married into the same family — to Vipin’s brother Rohit — with both weddings solemnised on the same day. Kanchan’s complaint led to an FIR against Vipin, his mother Daya, father Satyaveer, and brother Rohit under charges of murder, voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal conspiracy at Kasna police station. Also read – Father alleges affair, says Vipin killed Nikki over ‘other woman’; tried to pass murder as suicide Recounting the horrific sequence, Kanchan said Nikki was beaten before being doused in kerosene and set on fire on August 21. “My mother-in-law gave a bottle of kerosene to Vipin, who poured it on Nikki. When I protested, I was also beaten. My husband and father-in-law were present but did not intervene. I somehow managed to take my sister to Fortis Hospital with a neighbour, but she didn’t survive,” she told TOI. Disturbing videos recorded by Kanchan show Vipin dragging Nikki by her hair and mocking her to “make a video.” Another clip shows Nikki engulfed in flames and stumbling down a staircase. In a third, longer video, she is seen badly burnt, sitting on the floor. The couple’s five-year-old son also witnessed the brutality. In his statement to police, he said: “Mumma ke upar kuchh dala, fir chaata mara, fir lighter se aag laga di.” Police said initial findings point to domestic violence and harassment by in-laws, though no conclusive proof of dowry demands has surfaced so far. Investigators also revealed Vipin was in touch with other women and objected to Nikki’s Instagram reels and her plan to run a beauty parlour with her sister. The sisters had shut the parlour six months ago due to constant interference but recently decided to reopen it, sparking fresh arguments. Kasna SHO Dharmendra Shukla said the final altercation began hours before the incident when Nikki and her sister argued with their mother-in-law over making a reel. “Vipin told her to stop making videos, but Nikki continued. She said she would reopen the parlour,” the officer said. Later, Vipin attempted to portray Nikki’s death as suicide on social media, posting: “The world is calling me a killer, Nikki… Why did you do this?”
