NEW DELHI: A high-stakes battle is likely to unfold in Bihar’s Minapur assembly constituency, where JDU, RJD and Jan Suraaj party are engaged in a tight race. JDU’s Ajay Kumar, Munna Yadav from RJD, and Tej Narayan Sahni from Jan Suraaj party are the main contenders battling for victory in this crucial seat.Polling for the constituency took place on November 11, during the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, with the results scheduled to be announced on Friday.

Back in 2020 elections, the constituency recorded a 65% voter turnout. Across Bihar, the overall turnout stood at 66.91%, marking one of the highest in recent years.

Constituency profile

The constituency, classified under the General category, is located in Muzaffarpur district and forms one of the six Assembly segments under the Vaishali Parliamentary seat.It is known for its politically aware electorate and history of close contests. Since 1977, both the RJD and JD(U) have claimed the seat three times each, making Minapur one of Bihar’s most unpredictable battlegrounds.In the 2020 elections, Rajeev Kumar of the RJD emerged victorious, polling 60,018 votes (33.51%), while Manoj Kumar of the JD(U) finished second with 44,506 votes (24.85%), giving RJD a winning margin of 15,512 votes (8.66%). NOTA accounted for 1,213 votes (0.68%).This year’s contest has gained added attention following exit poll projections, which indicate a strong showing for the Nitish Kumar-led NDA, while predicting limited success for the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan and a modest performance for the Jan Suraaj Party, expected to secure only single-digit seats statewide.
