In Meerut, a 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly filming a 20-year-old woman while she was bathing at a government hospital. The woman, who was attending to her cancer-stricken mother, was blackmailed with the video.

MEERUT: A 22-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly filming a 20-year-old woman bathing at a top govt hospital in UP’s Meerut. The woman was an attendant to her mother, a cancer patient, police said on Saturday.A police officer said the accused from Muzaffarnagar had accompanied his wife for tuberculosis treatment when he saw the woman and committed the crime.The incident comes just days after a 13-year-old patient was allegedly raped in the same hospital’s orthopaedic ward, early on June 22. It was then claimed by the hospital’s authorities that security had been beefed up at the facility “to prevent such crimes in the future”.SP (city) Ayush Vikram Singh said, “The woman from Amroha, approached police with her complaint claiming she received a video clip from an unknown number and that the person was blackmailing her. She mentioned that she was secretly filmed while bathing in the hospital’s washroom. The woman had come with her mom and stayed for a few days at the medical facility.”In her complaint, she stated, “The accused somehow got my phone number. After returning home, I received a video on my mobile, followed by repeated calls. The accused asked me to speak to him on the phone, perhaps trying to get me into a relationship, and threatened to circulate the video if I refused. Subsequently, the accused made the video public…”SHO Sheelesh Yadav told TOI, “An FIR was registered under BNS sections 77 (voyeurism) and 351-2 (criminal intimidation) along with sections of the IT Act. The accused was produced before the court and sent to jail.”
