Massacre on camera: 25+ dogs slaughtered as men on motorbikes shoot at strays in Rajasthan; 1 booked

By: Ashok Singh ShekhawatJHUNJHUNU: A gruesome incident in Kumawas village, located in the Nawalgarh area of Jhunjhunu district, has sparked outrage by animal activists after at least two individuals were filmed shooting and killing more than 25 dogs. The horrific act was committed on Aug 2 and 3 but it wasn’t until a video surfaced on social media on Wednesday that local police acted.The video footage shows two individuals on a motorcycle chasing and firing at stray dogs with a gun, leaving their bodies scattered across village streets and fields. Another person on a second bike is partially seen in the same video following and filming the duo on the first bike. It was unclear if the individual on second bike was complicit in the crime.Preliminary police probe later identified one of the accused as Shyochand Bavariya, a resident of Dumra village. Local police have registered a case against Bavariya under multiple sections of the Animal Cruelty Act and the Arms Act.The incident has sparked outrage among animal lovers and local residents, who are calling for strict action against the perpetrators.Superintendent of Police, Jhunjhunu, Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay confirmed the video’s authenticity and dispatched head constable Shubhkaran to the village for further investigation. “We are aware of the video showing a person shooting at dogs in Kumawas village. Immediate steps were taken to investigate the matter,” Upadhyay said.
