Map mishap: Delhi man follows GPS to friend’s address, lands into swamp; car catches fire

NEW DELHI: A routine drive turned into a near-fatal ordeal for Rajan Sahni, a resident of Old Rajendra Nagar, after his navigation app led him into a swamp on Wednesday. Sahni, who was travelling with his brother, said he was on his way to visit his friend, Govind, near Pihani Chungi in New Civil Lines area. “I entered my friend’s address into the app, but it directed me to a wrong route. That’s how I ended up driving straight into a swamp,” he said. As he tried to manoeuvre the car out, the wheels sank deeper into the slush, causing the engine to overheat. Smoke began to billow out and the car caught fire, leaving Sahni trapped inside. His brother managed to escape and, with Govind — who had rushed to the spot after receiving a call — pulled Sahni out moments before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.
