NEW DELHI: A man tried to approach Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Purnea, Bihar, on Sunday, leading to a brief commotion before security personnel pulled him away. Gandhi, who was riding a motorcycle alongside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, was unharmed.
A video of the incident, now widely circulated on social media, shows the man getting close to Gandhi before being stopped and slapped by security staff as the yatra convoy moved through a crowded stretch.The ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ will cover over 1,300 km across 20 districts and is scheduled to conclude in Patna on September 1.RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, who has been accompanying Gandhi through different stretches, sharpened his attack on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Addressing a rally in Bhagalpur, Yadav declared, “This will be the last election of the Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. He will not become Chief Minister again. Do you want an original CM or a duplicate? We all need to be united and vote for change.”Reiterating his call for opposition unity, Yadav added that the movement was about taking “everyone along” in the fight against the ruling government.Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has also announced that he will join Rahul Gandhi’s yatra in Bihar on August 29. “Rahul Gandhi ji took out a yatra in Bihar.
