Madhya Pradesh: Man throws chilli powder in his daughter’s eyes, later stabs her to death

BHOPAL: A 24-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her father in the Beldar Ka Pura locality under Gwalior’s Janakganj police station area on Thursday morning around 9:30 am, police said.According to police and local media reports, the accused, Badam Singh Kushwaha, first threw chili powder into his daughter Rani Kushwaha’s eyes before stabbing her five times in the stomach. She died on the spot.Initial investigations suggest the murder was following from a long-running family dispute aggravated by the father’s alcohol addiction. Rani’s mother, Bhagwati Bai, said Badam Singh—disabled in one leg after an accident during the COVID-19 lockdown—had been unemployed and often withdrew money from the family’s grocery store cash box to buy alcohol.“He would abuse and beat us if anyone protested. Rani frequently objected to his behavior,” Bhagwati Bai told local reporters. On Thursday, when Singh tried to take more money, Rani’s objection allegedly enraged him.In anger, Singh reportedly attacked her, first blinding her with chili powder, then stabbing her multiple times with a knife. Neighbors who heard the commotion alerted police, who arrived and arrested Singh at the scene.SP Dharamveer Yadav said the accused was a liquor addict and motive behind murder is yet to be ascertained. Janakganj police confirmed the arrest. Police said that the accused has been taken into custody for questioning, and further action is underway.
