LPG for PM's rally, nothing for people: TMC

KOLKATA: Trinamool mocked PM Modi‘s calls for “poriborton (change)” in Bengal from a Kolkata rally on Saturday, accusing him of prioritising politics over the LPG crisis, forcing people to queue up for cylinders and battle price rise. TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh claimed large quantities of LPG cylinders were used to rustle up snacks for participants of Modi’s rally at Brigade Parade Ground even as households and eateries struggled to secure gas supplies amid soaring prices. “Parliament is discussing the LPG crisis and price hikes, yet the PM is attending a political meeting in Bengal. Restaurants are shutting down. Cooking has stopped in many homes. But 250 LPG cylinders were used at BJP’s Brigade rally to fry jalebis and kachoris,” Ghosh said. State education minister Bratya Basu of TMC echoed the charges ahead of the imminent assembly polls. “CM Mamata Banerjee has ensured that LPG supplies continue and the mid-day meal scheme is running, but what is our PM doing? While the country is going through such a crisis, he should have been in Parliament discussing the issue and finding a solution. Instead, he has come here to engage in vote-bank politics,” Basu said. “Before lecturing Bengal about ‘poriborton’, he (Modi) should change the reality where people stand in endless queues to keep kitchen fires burning,” TMC said social media.
