Liquor scam probe: Ex YSRCP MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy arrested in Bengaluru | Vijayawada News

VIJAYAWADA: The Special investigation team (SIT) probing the liquor scam case arrested former Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy along with his childhood friend and a realtor Venkateswarulu Naidu at the Bengaluru airport on Wednesday. They were shifted to Vijayawada by road for questioning in connection with the liquor scam case. Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, considered a close aide of former Chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, was a two time MLA from Chandragiri, who unsuccessfully contested from the Ongole parliament constituency in the 2024 general elections. Sources in the SIT maintained that liquor scam proceeds to the tune of approximately Rs.250 cr were routed by one of the key accused in the liquor scam case Raj Kasireddy through Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy for election expenditure last year. The seizure of funds to the tune of Rs.8 cr from a truck at Garikapadu checkpost in Jaggaiahpeta mandal in NTR district on May 9, just before the elections last year provided leads to the SIT to establish links which Chevireddy allegedly had with the other accused in the liquor case. A few weeks ago, SIT sleuths thoroughly questioned Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy’s ex gunmen Madan Reddy and Giri, prompting Chevireddy to level accusations against the SIT of torturing his ex gunmen to provide false testimony against him to implicate him in the liquor case. His ex gunman Madan Reddy also addressed letters to AP CM Nara Chandrababu Naidu and DGP, echoing the same allegations of torture against the SIT.However after gathering numerous evidences including confession statements and CCTV footage, SIT named Venkateswarulu Naidu as A-34, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy as A-38 and his son and former Tirupati urban development authority (TUDA) chairman Chevireddy Mothith Reddy as A-39 in the liquor scam case.
And as the SIT issued lookout notices against Chevireddy, Venkateswarulu Naidu and other accused in the case as a precautionary measure, the duo were intercepted at the Bengaluru airport just moments before they could board a Colombo bound flight and were subsequently taken into custody by the SIT. Both Chevireddy and Venkateswarulu Naidu are likely to be presented before the local court at Vijayawada and subsequently sent to judicial remand on Wednesday.
