Iran fires 6 missiles toward US bases in Qatar; explosions heard across Doha: Report

Iran launched a missile attack targeting US bases in Qatar on Monday night, with six missiles reportedly fired at the Al Udeid Air base, according to Axios, which cited an Israeli official. The attack marks a major escalation following recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.Shortly after Qatar closed its airspace, loud explosions were heard across Doha and Lusail, with witnesses spotting projectiles in the sky. The closure was part of a precautionary measure as tensions in the region surged.Iran’s state television broadcast the announcement of the attack with martial music playing in the background. A caption on-screen described the missile strike as “a mighty and successful response by the armed forces of Iran to America’s aggression.”The Al Udeid Air Base, located southwest of Doha, is the largest US military installation in the region and a strategic hub for operations across the Middle East. While there has been no official response yet from the Pentagon or Qatari authorities regarding casualties or damage, Western embassies in Qatar, including the US, have urged their citizens to shelter in place. This missile strike comes just days after the US and Israel conducted coordinated airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, sparking warnings from Tehran of “unpredictable consequences.”As of now, Qatar’s foreign ministry has said that the security situation remains under control and that the country is working with regional partners to de-escalate the crisis.
