Rishabh Pant achieved a significant milestone on Thursday, becoming India’s highest run-scorer in the World Test Championship by surpassing Rohit Sharma‘s record of 2716 runs during the fourth India-England Test at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter reached this landmark in his 38th WTC match while batting in the second session of day two, despite sustaining a foot injury on the first day.Pant needed 40 runs to break Rohit’s record and successfully accomplished this feat during India’s first innings. His WTC career now includes six centuries and 15 fifties, maintaining an impressive average of 43.80.

The left-hander’s achievement adds to his growing list of accomplishments in England, where he became the first non-English wicketkeeper-batter to score 1000 Test runs on Wednesday. The current WTC statistics show Pant leading the run-scoring charts for India with 2717 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma with 2716 runs from 40 matches. The BCCI issued an official update regarding Pant’s injury status through their social media platform X: “Update: Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant has joined the team on Day 2 and will be available to bat as per team requirements.“The injury occurred during the third session of day one when Pant was batting on 37 runs from 48 balls.
