With his fluent knock alongside KL Rahul, Pant moved past 361 runs in the ongoing series — a new record. He went past his own previous best of 350 in Australia back in 2018, and also overtook MS Dhoni’s 349 in England in 2014. Pant had also scored 349 in England in 2021. This time, he did it despite pain. On Day 1, Pant had injured his finger while keeping and didn’t take the field after that. But when it came time to bat, he showed no signs of holding back. He looked sharp from the start, playing his usual mix of attacking strokes and smart placements.

Who do you think is the best Asian wicketkeeper-batter in Test cricket history?

Pant came in after India had lost three wickets for just 65 in response to England’s 387. He and KL Rahul steadied the innings with a solid partnership. While Rahul kept things calm, Pant added energy at the other end. It was another reminder of how important Pant is to this Indian team. He keeps coming up with big performances in tough overseas conditions, whether it’s Australia or England.
