‘I paid but what will the poor do’: Ex-BPCL CFO says he paid bribes after daughter’s death in Bengaluru | Bengaluru News
BENGALURU: A former top executive of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Sivakumar K, has sparked outrage after alleging in a LinkedIn post that he was forced to pay bribes to officials while dealing with his daughter’s death.Sivakumar K, who earlier served as BPCL’s chief financial officer, wrote that his 34-year-old daughter had recently died. In the aftermath, he said he was made to pay bribes at multiple points — from arranging an ambulance to securing official paperwork.“Recently my only child passed away at age 34. The amount of open bribes being asked by the ambulance, police for FIR and post-mortem report, crematorium for giving receipt, and BBMP office for the death certificate,” he wrote in his post. “I paid.”
Sivakumar added that an inspector at Bengaluru’s Bellandur police station was “arrogant” and lacked empathy toward “a father who lost his child”.“Very sad state. I had money, I paid. What will the poor do?” he asked.The post, shared nearly a month after his son’s death, has drawn strong public reaction and prompted officials to intervene. Following the outrage, Bengaluru city police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh took cognizance of the allegations and ordered immediate action. Sub-inspector Santosh Kumar and constable Ghorakh from Bellandur police station were suspended on charges of bribery.
