Himachal Pradesh Rain: Landslide near Pandoh Dam shuts Mandi-Kullu Highway; Mandi worst hit | Shimla News

NEW DELHI: A landslide near Pandoh Dam led to the closure of the Mandi-Kullu Highway, further disrupting road connectivity in Himachal Pradesh amid continued heavy rainfall across the state, officials said on Friday.According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 291 roads remained blocked on Thursday, with Mandi district reporting the highest number at 171. The district, which suffered extensive damage in last month’s flash floods, continues to reel from the effects of relentless rain.In Mandi, Seraj assembly constituency reported the highest number of road closures (70), followed by Thalout (35), Dharampur (25), and Karsog (18). Rising water levels in rivers and streams prompted authorities to open the floodgates of Kol Dam as a precaution. In Gada Parli panchayat of the Sainj valley (Kullu district), floodwaters washed away bridges and roads, severing access to at least four villages. The Beas River also swelled dangerously on Thursday night, forcing residents in Nehru Kund and Bangh near Manali to stay on high alert amid fears of flooding.Authorities have urged residents and tourists to avoid non-essential travel and remain vigilant as rainfall continues across the region. The rain has also triggered widespread disruptions to power and water supply:
- 416 distribution transformer regions (DTRs) were non-functional, with the most outages in Kullu (174), Chamba (132), and Mandi (89).
- 219 water supply schemes were disrupted, mainly in Kangra (134), Mandi (78), and Chamba (7).
