NEW DELHI: Police in Andhra Pradesh are looking for a man accused of tying his wife to a wooden pole and assaulting her in Prakasam district.Police said on Wednesday that four people, including the husband, have been taken into custody in connection with the case. The incident occurred on September 13 in Tarlupadu Mandal but came to light on Tuesday, a police official told news agency PTI.A video of the attack captured Guruntham beating his wife with a belt and repeatedly kicking her, while she screamed, jumped.
“Balraju tied and tortured his first wife Bhagyamma at Tarlupadu mandal in Prakasam district after suspecting her infidelity,” the official said. Balraju, who has two wives, was staying with his second wife and had recently returned to his village. Police said he was suffering from a health ailment and had asked Bhagyamma to bring money for medical treatment, along with their children. When Bhagyamma refused, citing that she was the sole caretaker of four children, Balraju allegedly tied her to a wooden pole and assaulted her. A video of the attack went viral on social media. Police said Balraju suspected his wife of having an affair, which triggered the assault. He is currently absconding, and a case has been filed under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
