AHMEDABAD: Upset about not having a male heir, a man from Kapadvanj allegedly threw his seven-year-old daughter into a canal in front of his wife. The crime came to light after the child’s body was found in the canal, and the wife told her family the truth, leading to the man’s arrest.According to police, the incident took place on July 10 when Vijay Solanki took his wife Anjana and their elder daughter Bhoomika on a motorcycle trip to a temple. On the way back, near the Vaghawat bridge over the Narmada canal, he allegedly stopped the vehicle, took the child to the canal’s parapet and suddenly threw her into the water. Anjana later told police that Vijay warned her against telling anyone about the incident and said he would divorce her if she did. Initially terrified, she told police that Bhoomika had slipped and fallen into the canal while watching fish. However, when the body was recovered, police began suspecting foul play. Anjana then confided in her brothers about the crime. The couple also has another daughter who is three years old. Anjana’s complaint states that Vijay was unhappy about not having a son and often argued with her. Anjana, 35, lodged the complaint at Aantarsuba police station. She stated that Vijay had taken them to the temple as part of his plan to kill their daughter. While returning from the temple, he feigned a leg cramp and stopped the vehicle to carry out his plan. He even pressured her to lie about the murder, the complaint states.Kheda SP Rajesh Gadhiya confirmed that the initial statements given by the couple were not convincing, prompting further investigation. After questioning family members and reviewing inconsistencies, police registered an offence of murder under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Vijay Solanki has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
