Gautam Adani took home Rs 10.41 crore salary in FY25, less than top executives; marks 12% increase from FY24

NEW DELHI: Adani Group chairman, Gautam Adani, 62, earned a total salary of Rs 10.41 crore for the financial year ending March 31, 2025. This marks a 12% increase from the Rs 9.26 crore the India’s second-richest man earned in FY24, according to the latest annual reports of his group companies.Despite his massive wealth and control over a vast ports-to-power empire, Adani’s salary remains lower than that of several key executives within his own group.His pay came from just two of the nine listed firms under the Adani Group, reflecting a relatively modest compensation when compared to industry peers and even his own leadership team.Earlier in 2024-25, Gautam Adani earned Rs 2.54 crore from Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), which included Rs 2.26 crore as salary and Rs 28 lakh in perks and allowances.This was slightly higher than Rs 2.46 crore he earned from AEL the previous year. He also received Rs 7.87 crore from Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), consisting of Rs 1.8 crore salary and Rs 6.07 crore commission.

AEL CEO Vinay Prakash was the highest paid, with a total remuneration of Rs 69.34 crore, including Rs 4 crore salary and Rs 65.34 crore in allowances and performance-linked incentives “for exceptional operational and financial performance in the mining services and integrated resources management business of the company”.Adani Green Energy MD Vneet S Jaain earned Rs 11.23 crore, while Group CFO Jugeshinder Singh received Rs 10.4 crore. At Adani Ports, Gautam Adani’s son Karan Adani drew Rs 7.09 crore, and CEO Ashwani Gupta earned Rs 10.34 crore. Variable pay for both will be given in FY26, the annual report said.Gautam Adani’s younger brother Rajesh earned Rs 9.87 crore from AEL, while his nephews Pranav and Sagar received Rs 7.45 crore and Rs 7.50 crore respectively.Adani Total Gas CEO Suresh Manglani earned Rs 8.21 crore, and Adani Energy Solutions CEO received Rs 14 crore, while Adani Power CEO SB Khayalia was paid Rs 9.16 crore.Adani’s salary is lower than that of nearly all leaders of major family-owned conglomerates in India.While Mukesh Ambani has not taken any salary since the Covid-19 pandemic began and previously capped his pay at Rs 15 crore. Gautam Adani’s remuneration is much lower than other top industry leaders. For comparison, telecom chief Sunil Bharti Mittal earned Rs 32.27 crore in 2023-24, Rajiv Bajaj got Rs 53.75 crore, Pawan Munjal received Rs 109 crore, L&T Chairman S N Subrahmanyan took Rs 76.25 crore in FY25, and Infosys CEO Salil S Parekh earned Rs 80.62 crore in FY25.Gautam Adani, with a net worth of $82.5 billion (as per Bloomberg Billionaires Index), has been competing closely with Mukesh Ambani for the title of Asia’s richest person. Adani briefly held the top spot in 2022 but lost it after a report by US short-seller Hindenburg Research led to a massive $150 billion drop in his group’s market value at its lowest point in 2023. Currently, Adani stands at 20th.
