Final reminder! Free Aadhaar updates ends soon; check all you need to know before June 14 deadline

NEW DELHI: If you haven’t updated your Aadhaar details yet, time is running out. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has set June 14, 2025, as the last day to update your Aadhaar card documents online for free.After this deadline, any updates to your Proof of Identity (PoI) or Proof of Address (PoA) will require a visit to an Aadhaar Enrolment Centre and will cost Rs 50 per update.What is Aadhaar?Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique ID number issued to Indian residents, linked to their biometric and demographic details. It’s used widely for identity verification across services and schemes.Why update Aadhaar?UIDAI mandates Aadhaar holders to update their PoI and PoA every 10 years to ensure data accuracy. Keeping your Aadhaar up to date helps avoid issues with services like banking, government benefits, or mobile connections.How to update Aadhaar for free (online):
- Visit: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in
- Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP from your registered mobile.
- Click on ‘Document Update’.
- Upload valid scanned copies of your PoI and PoA documents (in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format, max 2MB)
- Submit and note the Service Request Number (SRN) to track status.
What are the documents accepted?
- Proof of Identity & Address: Aadhaar, Voter ID, Ration Card, Indian Passport
- Identity Only: PAN card, Driving License, school certificates with photo
- Address Only: Utility bills (last 3 months), Bank/Post Office passbook, Rent agreement
What if you miss the deadline?From June 15, 2025, all updates will be offline-only and will attract a Rs 50 fee. Biometric updates (like photo or fingerprint changes) will still require a physical visit.Don’t wait until the last moment.
