Ferozepur woman injured in Pakistani drone attack dies; first civilian casualty in Punjab | Amritsar News

BATHINDA: A 50-year-old woman, who had sustained serious injuries in a Pakistani drone attack on May 9, succumbed to her wounds on Tuesday, marking the first civilian casualty in Punjab linked to cross-border shelling.Sukhwinder Kaur, her husband Lakhwinder Singh, and their son Monu had suffered severe burn injuries when a part of Pakistani drone intercepted by Indian air defence system crashed into their home, located in the fields of Khai Pheme Ke village in Ferozepur district.The injured family members were initially admitted to a private hospital in Ferozepur. The couple was later shifted to DMC Hospital in Ludhiana, where Sukhwinder Kaur died on Tuesday morning.The incident occurred shortly after a blackout was imposed at 9pm on May 9 as part of security measures. At the time of the attack, Lakhwinder Singh was trying to sleep, while Sukhwinder Kaur was in the kitchen. Despite the blackout, the lights were reportedly still on in their house when the drone struck.Several videos have since gone viral, showing Lakhwinder Singh with burn injuries on his back, highlighting the severity of the attack.“Some drone attacks were reported in the district on May 9, which the defence forces neutralised. However, debris from one of the drones struck the house of Lakhwinder Singh, injuring three members of the family,” senior superintendent of police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu told TOI.
