Earthquake of magnitude 8 strikes off Russian coast; tsunami alert issued in Alaska: USGS

A tsunami alert was issued in the Pacific after an earthquake of magnitude 8 struck Russian coast, AFP reported citing USGS on Wednesday.The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake struck about 85 miles (136 kilometres) east of Petropavlovsk, located on Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. The quake occurred at a depth of 12 miles (19 kilometres). The US authorities issued a tsunami advisory for parts including Alaska.This is a developing story.
