Gabrielle Union reveals daughter Kaavia’s hilarious obsession with marriage during family vacation with Dwyane Wade
Gabrielle Union shared that since Dwyane Wade’s retirement from the NBA, their family has made it a tradition to escape the holiday rush with a Christmas trip to Hawaii. “So, ever since my husband retired from the NBA, because we never got Christmas. He always played on Christmas. He wanted to go away to a place and just be able to like cocoon as a family. So we started going to Hawaii,” Union explained. What started as an intimate family vacation has now evolved into a larger gathering, with “four families” joining this year’s festivities. But the real star of the vacation was Kaavia, who decided this Christmas was the perfect time to declare her commitment to an unsuspecting boy named Crosby.“My child is obsessed with being married,” Union said, laughing. “We have no idea where that came from, but she’s like obsessed.”
Apparently, Kaavia had picked out her “husband” long before the grown-ups could intervene. “Her best friend Crosby, he became the target. Well, he didn’t know. He’s not aware,” Union recounted.“So, we were like, ‘God, does Crosby know that you guys are married?’ And she was like, ‘No.’ And I was like, ‘You don’t think you need to tell him or ask him perhaps?’ And she was like, ‘No.’ And I was like, ‘Well, you’re probably gonna be very successful as a married couple.’ But it was so one-sided. That it made it awkward.”
Kaavia’s “Pepe Le Pew” Pursuit of Love
For two straight weeks in paradise, Kaavia kept the romance alive— even if Crosby wasn’t on board. “Poor little Crosby was like fighting for his life,” Union joked. “It was very, it was giving very Pepe Le Pew. My child was the skunk. Like she was Pepe. And Crosby’s like, ‘Get her up.’”The culmination came on Christmas Day during dinner with about 20 people. Kaavia, ever the confident speaker, stood up to address the crowd. Union recalled, “She was— we’re like, ‘Bab, would you like to say something?’ And she was like, ‘Yes, whether we are in Africa, Paris, or Hawaii…’ she’s talking only to Crosby. Oh, she’s talking to her husband and her husband-husband. She’s like, ‘We’re married.’ And then looks at the other girls.” Meanwhile, poor Crosby, still dazed, could only murmur, “I just wanted to play Spider-Man.”Also Read: Dwyane Wade suggests Bradley Beal long desired to team up with Clippers’ elite playmakerUnion’s story highlights Kaavia’s comical childhood crush, it also how her daughter’s bold, expressive nature makes every vacation a memorable one.
