NEW DELHI: Counting of votes for the Bihar assembly election 2025 will begin at 8 am on Friday across all 243 constituencies, including Dhamdaha in Purnea district. The constituency is among the high-profile seats where veteran JD(U) leader and minister Leshi Singh is seeking another term. The contest also features Santosh Kushwaha from the RJD and Rakesh Kumar representing Jan Suraaj. Dhamdaha has long been a political stronghold of Leshi Singh, who has represented the seat multiple times since 2000. Known for her organisational strength and grassroots connect, Singh has defeated rivals from RJD, RLSP, and INC over the years. Her closest contests have been with RJD’s Dilip Kumar Yadav, marking a two-decade rivalry that has defined the constituency’s politics.

Across Bihar, counting will take place under tight security. The Election Commission has set up 4,372 counting tables, each staffed with supervisors and micro-observers. More than 18,000 counting agents have been deployed to oversee the process. Strong rooms housing EVMs and VVPATs are under 24/7 CCTV surveillance with two-tier security managed by CAPF and the state police. The state recorded a historic voter turnout of 67.13 per cent, with women voters outnumbering men in several districts. Results are expected to determine whether chief minister Nitish Kumar secures a record fifth term or if the opposition INDIA bloc, led by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, manages to stage an upset.
