Delhi CM 'attacked': BJP alleges Rekha Gupta 'hit by someone' during public hearing; 1 held

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP on Wednesday claimed that chief minister Rekha Gupta was allegedly attacked during the weekly Jan Sunvai (public hearing) session held at her Civil Lines residence.According to a statement issued by the party, a man attempted to hit the CM while she was interacting with citizens.Delhi BJP president Virendraa Sachdeva condemned the incident strongly, calling it a “serious breach of security” and demanding accountability.Party sources said that Gupta was “attacked” by a man aged around 35. He first gave the CM some papers during the public hearing and then allegedly attacked her, they said.The Delhi Police said that one person was apprehended and taken to Civil Lines Police Station in connection with the incident.The BJP said that the matter is now under police investigation and details will be revealed after an inquiry.The Civil Lines residence is a designated venue where the chief minister meets citizens to hear their grievances every week.State Congress chief Devender Yadav also condemned the incident.“This is very unfortunate. This incident also exposes women’s safety. If the CM of Delhi is not safe, how can a common man or common woman be safe?”(With agency inputs)
