NEW DELHI: India men’s cricket team coach Gautam Gambhir on Monday reacted to the Red Fort blast, saying he was saddened by the loss of lives and wished recovery for those injured.

“Saddened by the loss of lives due to the blast in Delhi,” Gambhir posted on X. He added, “Praying for strength to the families of deceased and for the speedy recovery of injured.”

A high-intensity explosion took place on Monday evening when a slow-moving car caught fire near the Red Fort Metro station. Several vehicles were damaged and at least eight people died.Following the blast near Red Fort Metro station, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has issued a high alert across the country — including airports, Delhi Metro, heritage sites, government buildings and other key installations under its security cover, news agency ANI reported..Meanwhile, several states across the country have been placed on high alert, with police forces intensifying checks and tightening security measures to prevent any untoward incident.Security will also be increased at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the final day of the Ranji Trophy Group D match between Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, as the stadium is located a few kilometres from the blast site.“Security to be beefed up near Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium (renamed Arun Jaitley Stadium) on the final day of the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Janmu & Kashmir,” Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma told news agency PTI.“I would be getting in touch with Delhi Police authorities and request them to deploy additional security outside the stadium premises,” he said.
