'Gave her cold drink laced with sedatives': 2 minors among 3 held for gang rape of 14-year-old girl in Dehradun

DEHRADUN: Police in Dehradun arrested a 19-year-old man and apprehended two 15-year-old boys for the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl after offering her a sedative-laced cold drink on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, officials said on Saturday.Circle officer (sadar) Ankit Kandari said the case came to light after the girl’s mother, who works at a dry cleaning shop, filed a complaint on Friday evening. “The girl had been sent out on Thursday evening to deliver goods from the shop to customers in the area. During that time, one of the juveniles, a friend, called her and asked her to meet near a school on the pretext of discussing something important. When she reached the spot, the other two accused were also present.”“The three allegedly made her sit on a two-wheeler and took her to a nearby forest. They consumed liquor there and gave her a cold drink laced with sedatives. After she lost consciousness, they took turns to rape her throughout the night. In the morning, they sent her home in an e-rickshaw,” he said.“She collapsed after reaching home. A few hours later, when she regained consciousness, she narrated her ordeal to her mother. Subsequently, her mother lodged a complaint, based on which an FIR was registered under sections 5(g) (gang-penetrative sexual assault against a child) and 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Pocso Act and BNS sections 123 (causing hurt by means of sedatives/poison), 137(2) (kidnapping) and 70(2) (gang-rape),” said Kandari. He added that a police team was formed to nab the accused on Friday night. “The adult was produced before the local court, while the other two were produced before the juvenile justice board. They were sent to jail and a juvenile correctional facility respectively,” said Kandari.(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
