Dalit techie’s murder: Woman's father arrested in Tamil Nadu honour killing case; family accepts Kavin's body after 5 days of protest

NEW DELHI: A sub-inspector has been arrested in Tamil Nadu in connection with the alleged honour killing of 23-year-old Dalit software engineer Kavin Selvaganesh. The arrested officer, Saravanan, is the father of the main accused, Surjith, who is alleged to have killed Kavin for being in a relationship with his sister, S Subashini.On Thursday, Subashini, denied her parents’ involvement in the incident. She said she planned to inform her parents about their love affair after some time. In a video that went viral on social media on Thursday, Subashini said Kavin asked for six months’ time to reveal the relationship. “We were in true love. Since we wanted some time to settle down, we didn’t say much about our relationship to my parents. On May 30, Surjith, my brother, informed my father about my relationship with Kavin. But when my father asked, I didn’t disclose anything as Kavin asked me for time,” she said.Family accepts Kavin’s bodyAfter staging protests for over five days, the family of C Kavin Selva Ganesh finally accepted his body on Friday. The handover took place at the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital, where Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru and Tirunelveli Collector R Sukumar also paid their respects.
