Dalit girl found hanging from tree in UP; family alleges murder by cousin, his friends

AGRA: A 17-year-old Dalit girl, who left for school on Thursday morning but never reached, was found hanging from a tree with a scarf in a village under the Bewar police station area of Mainpuri district in the evening.After her family accused her cousin (maternal uncle’s son) and his friends of murder, two individuals were detained for questioning on Friday, said police.When the Class 11 girl did not return home by evening, her family began searching for her. Later, a relative in Farrukhabad informed them she had been seen near the Kansepur drain. The family rushed to the spot and found her hanging from a tree.Bhogaon (Mainpuri) DSP Satyaprakash Sharma said, “After getting information, police rushed to the spot. A forensic team and dog squad were also called, and the body was sent for autopsy.”Bewar SHO Anil Kumar Singh added, “Once the autopsy report is received, a case will be registered. No formal police complaint has been filed by the family so far. Investigation is being conducted from every point of view.” Autopsy report will help determine whether it was a suicide or murder, police said.
