HYDERABAD: The Special Judicial First Class Magistrate (Spl JFCM) for Excise Cases in Hyderabad, dealing with the cases against MLAs and MPs, issued a Non-Bailable Warrant against BJP senior leader and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on Thursday for not appearing before the court in connection with a case registered against him at Huzurabad, Karimnagar district in 2021. “Accused is absent. Issue NBWs,” recorded the magistrate while posting the case to July 30 for further hearing. The case was registered against Bandi Sanjay Kumar for alleged violation of the model code of conduct during the byelection to the Huzurabad Assembly constituency. When the matter came up for hearing on Thursday, Sanjay’s counsel informed the court that he could not appear before the court in view of the ongoing parliament sessions. However, in view of multiple earlier opportunities directing his appearance and his subsequent disobedience to the orders, the magistrate took a serious view and issued the NBW.The case was registered in October 2021 under various sections of the IPC and the Representation of Peoples Act, after he allegedly made remarks against the opponent party, alleging that they gave Rs 20,000 each for each vote to their leaders to be distributed to the voters, but the party leaders distributed only Rs 5000 to the voters and pocketed the balance amount. After police filed a chargesheet in the case in 2023, the case was transferred to the Spl JFCM.
